How To Make A Pumpkin Pie For Hamsters

Updated: Feb 23, 2020

Hey, guys!

I'm sure you guys came from this video.

And let me guess....

You are here to find out the ingredients!!!! - DUN DUN DUNNN-

It is totally hamster safe food and our hamster friends will LOVE this special treat!

Okay, I'm gonna list ingredients here and all you need to do is putting them in a bowl and mix them together!

Pie Crust:

Whole wheat flour - 10ml

Wheat gluten - 0.25ml

Beaten egg - 3.7ml

Sugar - 1pinch

Pie Filling:

Pumpkin gut - 1tsp

Glycerin - 1pinch

Beaten egg - 1/4 tsp

Here are links where you can find most of these ingredients:

Whote wheat flour: https://amzn.to/2AudBJy

It's totally fine to use the regular flour, but it's ALWAYS BETTER to use the whole wheat flour.

The pie won't look pretty with the whole wheat flour since it has dark brown color, but it's a lot healthier for our hamsters!

Since I never use the whole wheat flour for myself, I only get a tiny amount from the local organic store, so that way I can always use the fresh ingredient.

Although it's a better deal to buy the whole bag, I don't like keeping ingredients that I don't use for a long time.

I do not approve any ingredients that are not fresh, especially for my hamster!

Gluten isn't necessary but I added it for extra protein for my hamster.

You can also use it for yourself if you are a baker lol.

Just add 10% of the amount of flour you are using.

Peanut butter is one of the best yummy yummy snacks for our hamsters.

I use reduced fat since our hammy friends get fat so easily lol.

Very very little tiny pinch of sugar.

Veryyyyy little.

It's only for flavoring.

No sugar is totally fine, too. I just want Taco to have a delightful moment when he's eating the special treat lol.

Once the dough is ready, put it in a bowl and cover it with a sheet of plastic wrap to prevent any invisible flying particles in the air sticking to it.

Place it in a cool area or in the refrigerator.

Here is the pumpkin gut from the pumpkin carving event!

Use the juicy sweet and soft part of the pumpkin for the pie filling.

I used glycerin instead of sugar for the filling.

It's a natural sweetener made from veggies.

This will lightly sweeten the filling!

If you don't know what to do with the leftover glycerin,

you can add it to water with fruit in it.

It becomes delicious fruity water!

You can also be used in homemade makeups, conditioner, or body lotion.

It makes your skin and hair smooth and silky!

You only need these three ingredients for the pie filling!

Before you mix the ingredients, cut the pumpkin gut with a clean pair of kitchen scissors into tiny pieces.

Long strings of pumpkin gut might cause a choking hazard.

I made a pie plate with some aluminum foil sheets.

The diameter of this plate is about 2 inches, but you can make it smaller.

Yeah, make it smaller.

I used up all the dough and I'm sure many of you will face the shortage of ingredients.

I suggest 1.5 inches.

I covered the inside of the plate with some peanut butter, just like we coat the baking trays with the oil spray,

to prevent the dough from sticking on it.

A tiny pinch of peanut butter should be able to cover the whole thing.

Lightly flour the flat working surface and place the dough on it.

If the dough sticks to the surface, use more flour.

Flatten the dough with your fingers and then use a rolling pin to spread the dough evenly to make it into a flat sheet.

I just used my hands all the way to the end because I was too lazy to look for the rolling pin lol.

Place the plate on top of the dough, the circumference of the dough must be a lot bigger than the plate.

When you think the dough is big enough, gently transfer the dough into the plate and press its bottom edges.

If the dough cracks or tears wet your fingers with a little water and press the dough back together.

Trim the edges with a pair of kitchen scissors and used the trimmed dough to make another sheet of dough.

Fill it in with the pumpkin filling.

I used all the fillings I made lol.

If there's too much liquid, gently tap it with a napkin or paper towel to soak up the moisture.

You can use a small kitchen knife to make a hole on the dough.

I made a hamster shaped hole xD!

Or you can just poke it with a fork to make tiny holes.

Place the dough on the pie and then trip the edges with a pair of scissors again.

Gently press each layer of dough with fingers as I did in the video.

And then lightly coat the top with a little bit of egg.

Preheat the oven to 350F and then bake it for about 15min or until the top crust becomes brown.

Cool it down until it gets cold before you serve it to your hamster.

I almost forgot to mention something very important!

You MUST remove the aluminum foil plate before you give it to your hamster.

Taco doesn't even nibble on something that's not edible lol.

but many hamsters would take a big bite out of it and accidentally swallow it, or put it in the pouch.

Bon appetit!
